It’s been a couple of weeks since I last posted, been a lot of work going on behind the scenes with training! These last few weeks have been focused on improving form and fitness, and over the last 2 months I’ve loved seeing the progress I have made. The results may not be here yet, but they are coming. Today is the 1st August, and it’s looking like a very exciting month for myself, lots of great races coming up, with opportunities, and with my form improving day by day, there’s lots to be excited about.
While I have been working on improving my form, I have been much more relaxed in races, knowing that I have been doing solid training during the week, so races on the weekend are just to race for enjoyment, no pressure with results. Of course I race to win, but when you don’t have the pressure of winning, you can find racing so different, and in a brilliant way. The last couple of months have been tough, bouncing back from a very unfit position in the middle of the season, and being able to get back up to a reasonable level of fitness now- I still have a long way to go in terms of progression, which only makes me hungrier and more motivated to smash every training session daily.
I’ve realised that this journey, of improving fitness takes time. You cannot force an improvement, you have to nurture it and allow your body to improve sustainably, without creating fatigue or unsustainable improvements which will backfire on you later on. It’s a shame in a way, if only my form and fitness could be at it’s peak this season, but instead I’m still having to work on improving it. I can’t wait for this month, with such good opportunities and with my ever-improving form, there’s a lot to do here.
This week is a recovery week, after 8 weeks of consistent training with my coach, now it’s time to allow the body to recover and absorb these improvements. Racing this weekend, then full gas with training again! I’m super excited for the next number of weeks, it will be a relief to finally get those results I’ve been on the hunt for.
There aren’t always many opportunities to celebrate in the season, as it tends to be so full on from start to finish, but this week I can rest up and be happy with the progress I’ve made in the last 8 weeks, and put myself in the best position possible for the upcoming races.
